The quote is taken from “Johnny the partisan” by Beppe Fenoglio, who puts his signature to the graffiti. The 3D lettering is “stained” with red to symbolise the blood shed in the partisan struggles and the K symbolises a red star. Behind, like a theatrical backdrop, a hummingbird soars to symbolise freedom. This is an urban redevelopment project with Fabio Weik in the CEP district of Genoa. The work is integrated into the toponymic context of the Pianacci area, a district known for its road signs named after the heroes of the partisan and resistance struggles.
“Pianacci becomes the “Neighbourhood of the Resistance”, with urban writers and artists illustrating the toponymy of the area. The event was held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Partisan Liberation, which saw in Genoa one of the key areas of the liberation. The images were created to give “life” to the ideas and themes that inspired the toponymy of the area. The Urban Art and Social Animation event aimed to give “body” to the toponymy of a neighbourhood. This first iniative took place at the CEP, where the names of the streets recall the Nazi-Fascist slaughters and massacres, the heroes of the Resistance, Anti-Fascism and the construction of repubblican and democratic Italy. The CEP also represents the daily fatigue and “resistance” that people carry out every day to defend their rights and give dignity to their lives.”
